RIP D.A. Pennebaker, director

Director D.A. Pennebaker has passed away at the age of 94. As Rolling Stone points out, even if he had only made the iconic documentary DONT LOOK BACK, Pennebaker would still have a well-deserved place in history. In fact, he would go on to make the first concert film, MONTEREY POP, as well as countless other landmark music films, including ZIGGY STARDUST AND THE SPIDERS FROM MARS.

In 1969, Pennebaker documented the Toronto Rock And Roll Revival at Varsity Stadium, the footage from which resulted in various concert films, most notably one of John Lennon’s set with the Plastic Ono Band.
